The company, which first opened in 2015 in the Gibson Mill Market on McGill Avenue Northwest, recently announced on social media that they are opening a second location in the first quarter of 2024. This is an impressive accomplishment for owners TJ and Maureen Creighton, the former getting started in 2009 after receiving his first home brew kit. After surviving the pandemic, the owners are now ready to expand to a second location for the first time.

“We have been looking in the Lake Norman area for a couple of years,” Creighton tells the Observer. “We live in the area and wanted something close to home. We are also really impressed with what the town is doing downtown. There are so many events there, and they seem to really support the community.”

High Branch Brewing Co. takes pride in offering various beer types under its brand name. From pilsners and smoothie sours to hazy double IPAs and milk stouts, the brewery has something for everyone, as well as a variety of cider and wine. The company’s original location at 305 McGill Ave. NW, No. 100 sits beneath the Gibson Mill Market, offering food options for the brewery. It’s unclear if the new location will have any food options.

“The brewery started on a very limited budget with little knowledge of the road ahead. Blood, sweat, and tears (literally), this whole experience has been very humbling, and it has had its share of ups and downs,” according to the company’s website. “We wouldn’t recommend anyone start a brewery like this, yet we wouldn’t have it any other way.”
