The new eatery will replace Ruby’s Gifts, next to Bar à Vins and Mac Tabby Cat Cafe, according to Axios Charlotte. Owner Jack Morrissey plans to open after Thanksgiving, serving guests through a small takeout window at first, followed by a grand opening sometime next month. Customers can expect 28-inch pies and slices, with five different types of pizzas and garlic knots on the menu. Zämbies will also serve beer, alcoholic slushies, wine, or champagne.
The new pizza shop will move into a popular area that doesn’t have many pizza options other than Benny Pennello’s down the street and a handful of chains on The Plaza. The owner hopes this will become the new late-night slice option, with planned hours for Sunday- Wednesday, 11 am-midnight, and Thursday- Saturday, 11 am-2 am. On top of being a great place to eat after the bars, Morrissey plans to make it affordable, where customers can get a slice of cheese pizza and a beer for about $10.
Pizza is no new venture for Morrissey, who helped co-found PIE.ZAA in Asheville before leaving in 2021. While he is no longer with the company, the giant slice pizza shop is expanding to Charlotte’s South End, located at 1440 S. Tryon Street, early next year. Morrissey is now hoping to open his next pizza concept soon, still offering late-night bites and giant slices.
