“It’s with a mix of nostalgia and sadness that Dandelion Market must say goodbye to its current home on 5th street in Uptown Charlotte,” the owners said on the social media site. “Our last day of operations will be on July 21st. For years, we have tried to be more than just a restaurant; we have tried to be a hub for the community, a place where neighbors met, memories were made and exchanged.”
In their announcement the Owners of the Dandelion Market cited a 60 percent rent hike as the reason for the closure.
Since opening in early 2010, Dandelion Market has become an Uptown staple, known for its late-night DJs, dancing, and popular weekend brunches. However, despite enduring the pandemic and rising inflation, the recent rent increase was too significant to manage.
While the physical location will close, Dandelion Market will transition to a food truck, with plans to eventually reopen as a permanent location. The food truck will feature popular dishes like cherry glazed lamb lollipops, pork belly and sweet potato gnocchi, and charred Brussels sprouts.
Profits from the restaurant’s last day will go to the staff, who will have opportunities to work at the owners’ other establishments, including Workman’s Friend and Connolly’s on 5th. The community can look forward to seeing the Dandelion Market food truck around Charlotte, keeping the spirit of the restaurant alive.
“Thank you to the Charlotte community for being so supportive of us over the past 15 years and we look forward to celebrating over the next few weeks and the time we get to serve you again,” the owners said.
