Couple Shamika and Roberto Brooks first began Hip Hop Smoothies in 2018, starting with a mobile trailer. Since then, they have expanded to two mobile units as well as two physical locations: one in Uptown at 224 E. Seventh St. and one in east Charlotte at 5800 N. Sharon Amity Rd.
The menu consists of frozen fruit smoothies with hip hop-themes names, such as the “Turn Down for What” smoothie, which is a mixture of Red Bull, strawberries, mango and peaches, and the “Rapper’s Delight,” which consists of strawberries, mango, pineapple and Gatorade.
The brand also plans to launch hip hop-themed acai bowls within a few weeks of opening, according to an Instagram announcement.
“We are excited for the opportunity to serve many more in the Charlotte area,” reads the Aug. 26 Instagram post.
Camp North End offers several other Airstream trailers for businesses, including Kicks & Fros and Black Moth Bars. The concept is designed to kickstart the business at Camp North End so that it eventually can grow into a larger space.
Camp North End is a 76-acre mixed-use development with office and retail spaces. It is seeing other new tenants entering spaces soon, including Gravity Sourdough Pizza Co., which plans to open a brick-and-mortar spot at Camp North End this fall.
