The new concept, which is inspired by Suggs’s late grandmother Jean, will be an all-day cocktail bar. During the day, it will serve spirit-free cocktails and fresh beverages, and at night it will serve conventional cocktails. It will feature a small beer list as well, alongside budget-friendly drink options.
Suggs said he recently signed a lease and they are now in the early stages of developing the small space.
“I wanted to develop a concept for my late grandmother who helped raise me,” Suggs said. “I actually have memories of walking down The Alley with her, and seeing this cool construction and the fact that it’s still standing today is the reason I chose this location and partnership.”
Suggs is not new to the food and drink industry in Charlotte. He has helped spur the local craft beer movement, and has been involved in concepts like Villa Heights cocktail bar Humbug. Most recently, Suggs has been involved in launching Ramble Drinkery this year, a traveling pop-up cocktail bar.
“I was part of the early stages of the craft beer boom in Charlotte,” Suggs said. “I gained interest in beer as I traveled the country and seeing the cocktail scene in bigger markets, I wanted to bring that back to Charlotte.”
Suggs and his operating partner Tristan Hunt are currently working on bringing Jean’s Cold Drinks to life. They join several new concepts currently heading to The Alley amid a revamp, including a new concept by the Protagonist Beer team.
“It’s really awesome because they have gone around to some of Charlotte’s best tastemakers and hand-selected people, so I was pretty honored to be part of that group,” Suggs said.
Other incoming tenants include Two Scoops Creamery, Knowledge Perk Coffee and The Dumpling Lady.
