Jon Seelbinder, the owner of Local Icon Hospitality, is behind the new concept, which will be called Embargo. Seelbinder has several local bar concepts in his portfolio, including The Green Light Bar, The Architect Bar and Social House and Little City Brewing.
Although the bar will be made out of shipping containers, it will be a large project. Embargo will have three levels of dining areas, featuring both covered seating and lounges, according to Axios Raleigh.
Ultimately, Embargo will be a hub for food and bars, with plans for a 14,000-square-foot space, with both indoor and outdoor areas. It will host food vendors — both from Local Icon Hospitality and other local businesses — as well as six bar areas. Seelbinder also hopes to incorporate works by local artists into the design.
The new concept comes during a time when shipping container bars are becoming more popular amid the trends in upcycling and cost-effective building materials. There are already other shipping container concepts in place in Research Triangle Park.
Seelbinder is aiming to open Embargo in early 2025.
