Old Salem, Inc. first announced in August that the restaurant — located at 736 South Main Street — would reopen and that it had been sold to a subsidiary of Charlotte-based RJS Properties. It has been closed since the end of 2019.

“After careful consideration, our Board of Trustees has decided that this move will ensure the best future for this beloved landmark,” an Instagram post from Old Salem, Inc. states. “RJS Properties, a family-owned real estate investment firm with a rich history of historical renovations, will begin restoring the property immediately. The new Old Salem Restaurant will continue to honor Moravian traditions while offering a top-notch dining experience for both locals and visitors.”

The revitalization process involves new kitchen equipment, renovations to the outdoor dining area and updates to the parking, according to The Go-To Winston-Salem. The spot is also recognized as a local historic landmark, which outlines rules for restoration and renovation efforts in the space.

The restaurant is expected to serve lunch and dinner and to maintain its nods to Moravian traditions and history.

The team is aiming to finish renovations by the end of the year, though an exact opening timeline is not yet known. The location is listed as “temporarily closed” on Google.

What Now Charlotte has reached out to RJS properties for more information on an exact timeline but had not heard back by the time of publication.
