The company’s second location will be in the new Monarch Market lobby, the 18,000-square-foot culinary collective featuring 13 food stalls and three bars that opened in November 2023, according to a recent press release. The Exchange Uptown will offer convenient goods, including sodas and cold beverages, artisanal and specialty snacks, grab-n-go sandwiches, greeting cards, gifts, beer and wine for retail purchase, and more, and will open in spring 2024.

Both Exchange Markets are Led by Kevin Samuel, formerly of the Pump House in Rock Hill and Charlotte’s Bistro La Bon, and partner Andrea Franceschelli. This new market location will be driven by convenience and the brand character experienced at the first market, offering building employees and visitors fresh goods, snacks, and the opportunity to pick up last-minute gifts.

Partnerships have always been important to the market founders, so shoppers can plan to see goods from local purveyors, including Queen Charlotte’s Pimento Cheese, Green Brothers Juice, Vintage Sun Company Candles, Lenny Boy Kombucha, Charlotte’s top breweries, Kanna CBD, Pasta & Provisions, Latino Bakes Cookies and more.

“Seeing people love the Exchange” in NoDa has been enormously validating,” Samuel said in a press release. “We have learned a lot about our community and what people want, and we’re excited to open in a new, more accessible part of Charlotte.”

The Exchange is part of Crescent Communities’ complete overhaul of One Independence Center, having invested more than $30 million with Nuveen since 2020 to create a top-tier, trend-forward destination. The 20-story building has leased 23,000 square feet of restaurant and food and beverage space, with the Exchange Uptown as its newest tenant, taking up 880 square feet.
